Howard Kim, MD, MS

Howard Kim, MD, MS is an emergency medicine and addiction medicine physician at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Denver Health followed by an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality T32 postdoctoral fellowship in health services and outcomes research and K12 career development award in patient-centered intervention development and patient-reported outcome measurement at Northwestern. Dr. Kim’s research agenda is focused on acute pain management in the emergency care setting and the provision of evidence-based interventions and harm reduction services for substance use disorder. He is the PI of an AHRQ-funded single-site trial of embedded emergency department physical therapy for low back pain and is supported by a NIDA K02 Independent Scientist Award to acquire additional skills and knowledge in implementation science. During the C-DIAS Fellowship, Dr. Kim will expand his current single-site trial of embedded physical therapy into a multi-site hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial and additionally develop a train-the-trainer implementation strategy for take-home naloxone distribution from emergency departments.
