Byron aims to improve the quality of health services by developing and evaluating implementation strategies and advancing implementation research methods. He is associate dean for research and associate professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, where he holds secondary appointments in the School of Public Health and the School of Medicine. He is co-director of Washington University’s Dissemination and Implementation Science Innovation Research Network, the Dissemination and Implementation Research Core, and the Center for Mental Health Services Research. He also holds adjunct appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, UNSW Sydney, and University College Cork.
Byron’s research has been funded primarily by the U.S. National Institutes of Health. He has published more than 160 scientific journal articles, 11 chapters and two books. He has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and listed among Stanford University–Elsevier’s World’s Top 2% Scientists. He has received several awards, including the Early Career Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Dissemination and Implementation Special Interest Group, a Fulbright Specialist Award, and a Provost’s Research Excellence Award from Washington University.
Byron is past president of the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration, co-editor-in-chief of Implementation Research and Practice, and serves on the editorial board of Implementation Science. He teaches a course at Washington University titled “Developing and Evaluating Implementation Strategies in Health and Social Services.” He is associate director of the Implementation Research Institute and core faculty for the HIV, Infectious Disease and Global Health Implementation Research Institute, the Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation in Health–Australia, and the Irish Implementation Science Training Institute.
