Penn State College of Medicine

Alice Zhang, MD, MPH is a family medicine physician and tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Penn State College of Medicine. She has a passion for health equity focused, community-based research in addiction medicine. Her clinical experience in treating substance use disorder within primary care settings has motivated her to find innovative ways to deliver treatment and harm reduction items/services to those who need it the most. Her current work involves using “smart,” interactive vending machines as a low-barrier harm reduction delivery method in community settings. She recently received a KL2 Career Development Award from Penn State CTSI to develop implementation and dissemination strategies for harm reduction vending machines, particularly in rural settings. Through the C-DIAS Fellowship, she hopes to develop a robust foundation of implementation science skills, particularly within addiction medicine, and to move towards becoming an independent physician-scientist whose work contributes to closing SUD-related health equity gaps in underserved populations.
